Yeah, Quite the problem for "King John" in 1984, A small island off of the Gilbert's island chain. Hard aground on a coral reef. Pumped practically everything liquid overboard, used the bow cherry picker & skiff to get the anchors astern, The Jeannine, Legacy & the Carol Linda's skiffs all pulling @ the same time, while winching the anchors, plus high tide, got her off of the reef.
Mistook the island for a rain squall on the radar at night while running. The course plot should have been double checked.
Double bottom hull construction saved her from being a complate disaster.
Trans-shipped the partial tuna load & steamed to NZ for repairs.
