We lost another seiner. The Tuna Boat Betty C caught fire and sank . This seiner was originally named the South Pacific when she was in San Diego. The Betty C , and its 21 member crew went into the skiff before being rescued by the Cape Ferrat . The crew was being transported to Samoa. Thank God no injuries were reported . [email protected]

  1. The Cape Ferrat picked them up, but it was thanks to their EPIRB that it did. "According to the US Coast Guard in Honolulu Hawai’i, the Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) received a distress alert from an emergency position indicator radio beacon (EPIRB) at 2 a.m.

JRCC determined the EPIRB belonged to the Kiribati-flagged, 140-foot fishing vessel, the Betty C. JRCC issued a safety net broadcast to which the US-flagged fishing vessel Cape Ferrat responded." -Samoa News 3 December 2014
