  1. Sorry to say that the environmentalist won that battle. They never bothered to view the evidence that the San Diego fishermen were actually saving the porpoise in the nets and putting themselves in harms way to do it. This was a propaganda by the enviros for pure greed in order to make money.

  2. Yes the enviro's won it. A couple of bad-grainy either 8 or 16mm movies, I think one of which was on the Liz CJ, showing white belly's sliding down the mesh & some after, going through the power block- Shocked the World -The film might have been on National Geographic . . . . . . Sad, indeed.

    The Medina panel – Harold Medina saved it for awhile, until we all can thank God for the Bonanza and Jags of log / school fish in the Western Pacific, to help save the industry.

    At the time, for companys to stay alive, they had to enlarge & deepen the nets then make the "voyage over", which was porpoise & federal observer free.

  3. the first observer was taken out and the CONTE BIANCO. From what i recall Augie Felando asked Louie Castagnola to take out the first observer who secretly took movies.

    what a mistake that was.

    those days very well.
