Top photo one of our loyal followers Clyde Williams In the control room of the Jeannine 1982 as the assistant heading to Samoa with full load. Love the casamar hat and cigar.
The bottom photo is also from Clyde. Taken in the mid 1970s in Puntarenas, Costa Rica. He was on the Toro Bravo in for repairs on the skiff and noticed these patrol boats. He sent this in for Greg Scafidi regarding his comments about his dad on the Trinidad in 1977 and patrol boats. You see guys this is what its all about bringing back memories some good some bad. Thanks again too Clyde your awesome . Please send in your pictures i know you have them we all do. [email protected]

Thumbs-Up & Yes, That's a "Gas Station" shirt i'm wearing. It came from "Blackies Laundry" – Jerry Vierria – RIP. He was quite the character around the SD embarcadero in the 70's & 80's. I think I still have a business card & some of his hats, you know the ones with a patch, that had the boats name & a yellowfin on it. All the memories . . . . Anyone out there remember ol Jerry . . . . . feel free to chime in. cw
I remember him. Use to get my wardrobe from him as well. Still have a bunch of it plus hats and shirts with the silkscreens of boats on them. Heard his son is still offering them in San Diego.
Yes he was quite the businessman. I can remember when Jerry would cruise the docks in his mid 70's blue Ford cargo van "looking for customers". Cool thing about him is that, he would take an order & usually complete it the same day (right out of his van), if not the next day. After awhile, when you got to know him, he would "front your purchase-on credit" for the duration of the trip you made, & could pay him when you got back into Port.
Last time I saw or spoke to him was around 1989 or so, when I was patrolling the beat as a rookie Harbor Police Officer, he was amazed when he saw me in uniform. He wanted a HP uniform shoulder patch from me & I mailed him one.
He was a slice of San Diego's proud, commercial tuna fishing history.

hey Clyde. was John Canepa running the JEANNINE when you were on there? Jasper Giammarinaro, Freddy, Mondelo, Craig…
Hello & Affirm. John was the Master. Jasper, John's brother In law, was the Deck Boss & I worked under Craig, as he was the Chief Engineer.
Not sure about a Freddy or Mondelo as they might have worked on it before my time. I got hired on late 1980 by Julius & John when it was moored at Julius' Chevron dock. I had a "vacation" that lasted about two trips, from when I got off the Toro Bravo & got onboard the Jeannine.
Jasper was Bear-to work for. I heard he later went to work on one of the NOAA boats across from Shelter Island. John ran the Jeannine the whole time I was on it. Craig got off around 1984 & Elias (Eli) Silveria (RIP) became the Chief. He was there the whole time, until I got off in late 1987. Prior to the Jeannine, Eli was the Cheif of the Island Princess (old Gemini) for a while. That rig went bust in Pago Pago & was sold around 1985.
Interesting thing about Craig. He told me that he was hired by Julius when the Jeannine was launched-brand new in 1974. It was the only seiner he ever worked on (from Deckhand to Cheif).
Did you work on the Jeannine too ?
my dad worked on the JEANNINE from the late 70's until they went over to Samoa. John is my uncle. did you fish with truck, larry zuanich, varmit. my dad was the skiffman.
Yeah, John was a great skipper to work for. He was also part of real good code-group. The skiffman was Ben Katator, or "Benkat" as how he liked to be called. He came from the M/V Western Pacific before he started working on the Jeannine. I did not make any trips on the Jeannine when it was over on "this side".
When I got hired on, it was for the maiden voyage over to the western pacific, which was a whole new frontier for most of the SD boats at the time. I posted the crews manifest under the Jeannine (title) when it left SD-for good. Just go to the top left side of Jimmy's webpage & type in Jeannine in the search space provided. It sould pop right up , then see my posted comments. I did not fish with Truck or Varmit & I reconize the Zuanich name.
I imagine after John-stepped off, did Tommy Zolezzi start running the rig right afterwards ?
Last time I saw John Canepa was in the late 90's at Westmarine off of Rosecrans. He was outfitting a small sportfisher-possibly a center console skiff, that was on a trailer in the parking lot. I know he's retired by now & how is he doing ? Also what about John's brother Angelo Canepa ? who was the Chief on the M/V Lone Wolf, when SanFilippo was running it ? I fished with Angelo's son & John's nephew, Pete Canepa when he was on the Jeannine for a short while too. I might have some pictures of Pete, John, Jasper & some of the other crew members in my photo albums to share.
Wow, A small world & a tight-knit fishing community, as well.
