I have a bunch of pictures of the Carol Linda when it was practically new, grounded on a reef next to a small island, that is part of the Gilbert's. I was there on the Jeannine and another code group boat -the Legacy, that used all three of the skiffs available for pulling, along with the anchor of the Carol Linda astern & winching at the same time, with the main in reverse, (all at high tide) to save this rig from doom & gloom.
Plotting / Navigation error was to blame for this disaster. I've been advised not to "share or publish" the pictures, as some "feelings could still be hurt" by the parties involved.
Some of the memories I have of King John's rig, as this screw-up happened 30 years ago.
