trivia:what does the C stand for in C.J.
I asked a good friend of mine who has been around a long time. Here's the answer I received.
Manual Jorge married Mary C Cantas, Jack Cantas daughter (Mary C Cantas-American Boy) when he came from the old country. After Manual lost the American Boy he got the White Star and renamed it Elizabeth after his wife, which he did well with. He then built the Elizabeth CJ after his wife, it later became Maria CJ when he built the 1700 tonner Elizabeth CJ (Jeanette) The J stands for Jorge.
Oops… He Married Elizabeth Cantas, Mary was Jack's Wife.
The Elizabeth CJ was the only vessel in the fleet with an elevator in the mast. Talk about a High-Liner. I bet for hi-ball time, these guys had Crown Royal, instead of CC or VO!
Know of any others that had an elevator in the mast ? ?
